Team Northumbria kicks off Netball Superleague season

Sky Sports will broadcast Team Northumbria’s first home game of the Netball Superleague season as they take on Loughborough Lightning on Monday night.

The game takes place at Sport Central – Northumbria University’s £30m sport facility – and will receive coverage on the popular sports satellite channel.

International players joining Team Northumbria's 2013 team include New Zealander Emma Woodings, Toetsie Kambatuku, from Namibia, and Australian star, Sally Butters. They will play alongside North East netball talent, including Tessa Potts, Claire Brown and Kayley Moss.

The award-winning Sport Central offers first class sports provision including a climbing wall, 25m swimming pool, golf simulator and fitness centre, open to students, staff and the general public.

The University is in the top 20 in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) – the premier sporting competition for students across the UK – competing in a wide range of sports across a multitude of levels. BUCS competitors studying at Northumbria benefit from some of the best coaches and facilities in the UK.

This season Team Northumbria’s title sponsor is Trinity Square, the new state-of-the-art student accommodation opening in Gateshead in 2014.

Boasting strong international stars and home-grown talent, Team Northumbria netball team will be led by Head Coach Lisa Stanley – who was hailed a hero last year after saving the lives of her team when the bus driver slumped unconscious at the wheel en-route to a game.

To celebrate the start of the season, all tickets are half-price at £2, with Northumbria University students gaining entry for just £1. Ticekt price includes entry to an NTL game prior to the NSL match.

The Netball Superleague game starts at 8pm on Monday, February 11, at the Sport Central arena. There will be performances by the North Star Cheerleaders and an appearance from Poly Parrot, the team mascot.
