Research documents rich heritage of Afro-descendant women living in Ecuador

Celebrating and sharing the lived history of Afro-Ecuadorian women, passed down through generations via the spoken word, is the objective of a collaborative research project led by Northumbria University and Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, alongside partners from the Mujeres de Asfalto collective, a Black feminist creative arts organisation.

A Northumbria University academic has been made a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences

The accolade is conferred upon the most outstanding social scientists from around the UK each year, and Professor of Criminology, Dr Tanya Wyatt will this autumn join an elite group of distinguished individuals representing the full spectrum of the social sciences across academia, the public sector, business, and the area of Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE).

International recognition for Fine Art student

A talented Northumbria University student, known for her large-scale vibrant oil paintings, has been presented with the Student Artist of the Year award by the Fine Art Trade Guild.

The full-time equivalent number of Northumbria researchers assessed as producing world-leading and internationally excellent research has jumped from 56 in 2008, to 207 in 2014 and 840 today.

Northumbria records biggest rise in research power for second time

Results from the Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) show Northumbria University with the biggest rise in research power ranking of any UK university. Its research power ranking rose to 23rd, having previously risen to 50th in 2014 from 80th in 2008, making Northumbria the sector’s largest riser in research power ranking for the second time.
