£1.29 million funding boost for solar scientists

Scientists from Northumbria University’s world-leading Solar and Space Physics research group have been awarded more than £1 million to carry out research which will further our understanding of the Sun, and its impact on Earth.

Northumbria’s rise in the Complete University Guide 2024 is down to an improved performance in a number of key metrics including entry standards, student satisfaction and graduate outcomes.

Polar ice sheet melting records have toppled during the past decade

The seven worst years for polar ice sheets melting and losing ice have occurred during the past decade, according to new research led by IMBIE - part of Northumbria University's Centre for Polar Observations and Modelling - with 2019 being the worst year on record. The findings are published today in the journal Earth System Science Data.
