Press release -

Northumbria University to welcome over 2,500 visitors for September Open Day

On Saturday 27 September, the University will welcome over 2,500 visitors for its undergraduate Open Day. It will be the perfect opportunity for prospective students and their parents to explore the campus and get a taste for life at Northumbria, which was recently awarded the ‘Best City Life’ title in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards.

Accommodation tours will take place throughout the day, and guests will be able to view a show flat of the brand new Trinity Square accommodation in Gateshead which boasts almost 1,000 en-suite rooms. Northumbria offers quality accommodation to suit all budgets, with first year students guaranteed a place if they apply in good time.

On the day, academic staff will be on hand to talk about their subjects and offer advice and guidance to potential applicants. The Central Exhibition space also gives visitors a chance to speak with some of Northumbria’s current students and graduate ambassadors. Other graduates taking part in the open day are actors Afnan Iftikhar and Zoe Hakin, who will swap the stage for city campus and share the latest headlines from Northumbria News. The pair will also deliver a short talk about how their time at Northumbria helped them build successful careers in TV and theatre.

Guests will be able to tour the 24/7 library, voted third best in the UK and the award-winning Students’ Union. The University’s outstanding facilities at Sport Central will also be on show, and representatives from Team Northumbria, the University’s competitive sports team, will be on their marks to answer questions about all things sport, from scholarships to socials.

There will also be a series of workshops covering UCAS Applications, Personal Statements and Student Finance. The whole programme has been designed to give visitors the flexibility to take part in activities most suited to them.

Professor Andrew Wathey, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said: “By opening up the University to the public, we are able to show prospective students the appeal of studying at Northumbria.

“With inspirational research-active lecturers and state-of-the-art facilities in one of the UK’s best student cities, it’s no surprise that Northumbria is attracting more applicants than ever before. We hope this open day will make a positive and lasting impression on our visitors.”
