Students set to benefit from Brewin Dolphin Scholarship

Investment and Wealth management business Brewin Dolphin has pledged £9,000 for a scholarship to support students wishing to study at Northumbria University's Amsterdam Campus.

The three-year scheme will provide funding for undergraduate students at Northumbria looking to enhance their learning with a year of overseas study in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Brewin Dolphin is also offering a separate internship opportunity for Northumbria’s business and finance students to gain valuable placement experience at its Newcastle-based offices.

Northumbria opened its Amsterdam campus earlier this year, building on a successful collaborative partnership with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). Masters programmes in both Business and Project Management have already attracted a first cohort of students looking to study for a UK-accredited degree in mainland Europe. Undergraduate programmes in international business, with an overseas study semester in business are also being offered for UK students currently studying at Northumbria. The Brewin Dolphin scholarship will provide £3,000 per year of funding support for a student on one of these programmes for the next three years. Students will work on consultancy to real businesses as part of their studies in Amsterdam.

Lucy Winskell OBE, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Employability and Partnerships) at Northumbria, said: “Brewin Dolphin is one of the UK’s leading wealth managers. We have a strong and long-standing relationship with them already and are delighted they have decided to engage with us further on this philanthropic initiative. Whether it is through the scholarship to support a year’s study in Amsterdam, or by offering an internship in their Newcastle offices, the opportunity will enrich both the learning and life experiences for the successful students – and will enhance their career prospects when they graduate.

“As well as offering high-quality learning, our Amsterdam campus and partnership with AUAS is enabling collaboration in research, and academic and student exchange. It is also contributing to greater engagement with business partners – both here in the UK and in the Netherlands. Working with Brewin Dolphin is a clear example of this cooperation. It will help us develop highly skilled graduates with an international focus and global mindset, which are so valuable to today’s employers.”

Charlie Fellowes, Wealth Manager at Brewin Dolphin, added: “We as a business are a part of the communities in which we live and work, and we believe we should play an active role in them. Getting involved in projects such as this strengthen the connections between our business, our people and our surroundings. Working with Northumbria University on this scholarship package will be an exciting few years for us; having students spend time with us in our office, and for them to get invaluable experience in the Netherlands is a perfect fit for our efforts to create access to the opportunities for students to gain the skills, knowledge and aspirations they’ll need to succeed in life.”
