Satisfied students give Northumbria top ratings
Students have given the best possible rating of 100% satisfaction in five subjects at Northumbria University, with a further five appearing within the top 15, in the latest National Student Survey.
The results, published today (Tuesday 13 August), show that Northumbria’s Architecture, French Studies, Human and Social Geography, and Mathematics and Statistics students were 100% satisfied and gave their programmes a perfect score. The University’s Nursing programme was also ranked the best in the sector, with a score of 93%.
Students on Northumbria’s Initial Teacher Training, Information Services and Planning (Urban, Rural and Regional) and Iberian Studies were rated within the top 10 in the sector and Physical Geography and Environmental Sciences within the top 15. In total, half of the University’s programmes achieved satisfaction ratings of 90% or above.
In total, 86% of students at Northumbria University were satisfied overall with the quality of their course and 91% would recommend studying at Northumbria to their friends.
More than 80% of the University’s programmes were highly rated by students for giving them the communication skills, confidence and personal development needed for their future careers. These findings support recent figures which show that Northumbria is one of the top 10 universities in the UK for graduates entering professional employment.
Professor Andrew Wathey, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said: “This is a strongly encouraging result for Northumbria which shows the University moving forward with an increasing number of programmes with student satisfaction of over 90% and positioned within the top quartile results in a larger number of disciplines.
“It is encouraging to see these results reflecting the University’s emerging position as an institution of choice for the best students from the North East and as the North East university with the highest percentage of graduates entering professional employment.”
Natalie-Dawn Hodgson, President of Northumbria Students’ Union, said: “The National Student Survey offers our students the chance to reflect on their years at Northumbria. The fact that 91% of students would recommend Northumbria as a place to study speaks volumes about the fantastic student experience here at Northumbria.”
The National Student Survey is an annual survey of final-year students at all UK universities and further education colleges. The survey asks students to rate their experience of a range of issues including the teaching on their course, the learning resources at their institution and the academic support made available to them. Many university league tables use responses from the survey as an indicator of the quality of an institution.
