Northumbria Uni wins award for best city life for students

Newcastle has once again been voted the UK’s best city for students as Northumbria University received the best "City Life" award in this year's WhatUni Student Choice Awards.

It is the fourth time that Newcastle has been rated as the UK’s best city for students in the last five years, after previously winning the MSN Travel survey for three consecutive years in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Northumbria was also shortlisted in the best student accommodation category and was rated as having the fifth best accommodation provision in the UK.

The WhatUni Student Choice Awards, which celebrate excellence in higher education, are voted for by students across the country who are asked to rate their university in nine categories which include their Students’ Union, facilities, course and lecturers and accommodation.

More than 18,000 current students and recent graduates across the country reviewed their universities. The awards were given to the universities with the highest rating for each category.

Adam Dunlop, Marketing Director for Northumbria University, said: “Newcastle has won countless admirers across the UK for many reasons, which include the friendliness of the city, its excellent cultural and leisure attractions and the fact that residents can enjoy city life, countryside and coast within a short distance of their homes.

“With two excellent universities in the city, it is already a hugely popular destination for students, and we are naturally delighted that our own students have rated Northumbria as offering the best city life in the UK.

“With our base in Newcastle and our new campus launching in London this September, Northumbria students benefit from being taught in two of the most vibrant cities in the country.”
