Press release -
Northumbria opens its doors for new students
Northumbria University – which features in the top ten in the UK for graduates entering professional employment – will host two undergraduate open days this autumn.
Taking place this Saturday 28 September and Saturday 26 October, the open days will provide prospective students and their parents with an opportunity to find out more about university life.
The world-class facilities that Northumbria University has to offer at its Coach Lane and City campuses will be open to visitors, with tours taking place throughout the day. Additionally, prospective students will be able to meet teaching staff to discuss the course options on offer.
Northumbria has the best graduate employability rate of any university in the North East and more employer partnerships than almost any other university in the country. With over 35,000 students from 95 countries it is truly international in its operations and reach and has a global reputation for academic excellence and a flourishing research reputation.
This year’s National Student Survey saw Northumbria students rate their satisfaction with the University’s degree programmes at 86%, with four subjects receiving 100% satisfaction. The latest Which? University rankings highlighted Northumbria both as a top sporting university and among the best for diverse local nightlife.
Both open days will host a range of events and presentations on campus. These will include programme taster sessions, tours of the campuses, including the award-winning Students’ Union, the Clinical Skills Centre, Northumbria’s 24/7 main library and its world-class sports facility – Sport Central.
Students and their parents will have the opportunity to speak to existing students and teaching staff about student life at Northumbria. General information sessions will provide advice about student finance, tackling UCAS applications and how to write a persuasive personal statement.
Visitors will also get the chance to see the quality student accommodation which, from 2014, will include nearly 1,000 new beds in the state-of-the-art Trinity Square development in Gateshead.
Professor Andrew Wathey, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said: “We work hard to attract the most talented people and, as a result, Northumbria is increasingly becoming an institution of choice for the best students from the North East region, as well as from the rest of the UK and further afield.
“Open days help potential students to make an informed decision about which University will be the right choice for them. We are confident that our outstanding staff, programmes, facilities and residential accommodation will make a lasting impression on our visitors.”
