New no. 1 bus service to Coach Lane

Press release -

New no. 1 bus service to Coach Lane

Northumbria University has joined forces with Stagecoach to improve the frequency of bus services between the City and Coach Lane Campuses.

From Tuesday 1 September, the University's current Monday to Friday hourly shuttle bus will be replaced by Stagecoach's number 1 bus, running every ten minutes, seven days a week between the City and Coach Lane Campuses.

The number 1 bus will be free of charge to Northumbria students and staff that board at the University's designated stops and produce their smartcard. Students and staff can use this service between 7am and 10.15pm every day.

Northumbria's four designated stops are the Civic Centre, the corner of Sandyford Road and Portland Terrace, the junction of Portland Road and Warwick Street and the Warwick Street/Stadium stop. Students and staff are asked to familiarise themselves with the timetable and allow sufficient time for their journey between the campuses. Travel time between both campuses is approximately 25 minutes. Click here to view the bus timetable.

Damon Kent, Director of Campus Services, explained: "After receiving consistent feedback in recent years from users on both the frequency and the capacity of our bus service, we recognised that significant improvements could be made. We are therefore delighted to be working more closely with the city bus operator Stagecoach to offer a much more frequent free bus service between our City and Coach Lane Campuses.

"The number 1 service will now be available free to students and staff every ten minutes seven days a week, on production of their smartcard. This will mean much improved access between our campuses and sports facilities outside of core teaching hours."
