Press release -
International recognition for responsible management education and sustainability
Northumbria University’s Newcastle Business School has been named among a select group of international education providers as a Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Champion for 2024 - 2025.
An initiative of the United Nations Global Compact, the 47 PRME Champions represent a group of dedicated business and management schools that are committed to working collaboratively to develop and promote activities that address shared barriers for the PRME community, and which deliver value for business and society at large. Newcastle Business School became a Signatory to PRME in 2014 - and has been a Champion School since 2019.
The focus of the 2024-2025 Champions cycle will be on advancing the re-commitment to the refreshed Seven Principles of PRME; engagement in Thematic Roundtables for generating ideas and solutions to institutional challenges within business schools that support the PRME strategy; and aligning with the vision of the United Nations Global Compact in completing actions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the 2024-2025 Champions will be essential in curating content to contribute to PRME Commons - the upcoming digital space for accountability, exchanges and learning between members of the PRME community.
As a flagship PRME programme, the PRME Champions Programme provides faculty members with a space for developing and sharing collaborative educational methods and a ‘living lab’ for ambitious new ideas for developing the next generation of sustainability-driven business schools and management-related higher education institutions in support of the SDGs.
Dr Alex Hope, Deputy Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business and Law at Northumbria and a member of the global board for PRME, said: “We are delighted to continue working alongside the other PRME schools to champion the principles of responsible management education. As long-standing members our renewed status as a PRME Champion chimes with Newcastle Business School’s aims to be a force for good in the North East of England and beyond by delivering professionally relevant, research-engaged education that develops future leaders who will help shape sustainable businesses and communities. It also aligns closely with Northumbria University’s wider strategic ambitions around the quality of our research, our contribution to social mobility and enabling graduate employability.”
Founded in 2007, PRME’s mission is to transform management education and develop the responsible decision-makers of tomorrow to advance sustainable development.
