Almost 13,000 tonnes of microfibres, equivalent to two rubbish trucks every day, are being released into European marine environments every year – but this could be reduced by as much as 30% if we made a small change to our laundry habits. The findings of this study by Northumbria University and Procter & Gamble have been published by PLOS ONE for World Oceans Day on Monday 8 June.
