Northumbria is most improved university in North East

Northumbria is the most improved university in the North East of England in the latest Complete University Guide, published this week.

Eleven subjects offered by Northumbria University, Newcastle, have been rated as being within the top 20 in the UK, with three subjects ranked in the top 5, in the Complete University Guide 2015.

The University’s Physiotherapy programme is rated as the third best in the UK, with Librarianship and Information Management ranked fourth and Land and Property Management ranked fifth.

A further three programmes are ranked within the top 10. Building programmes are in eighth position and both Architecture and Food Science are rated tenth.

Within the top 20, both Nursing and Town and Country Planning and Landscape Design programmes are ranked 13th. American Studies is ranked 16th, Linguistics is ranked 17th and Art and Design programmes are in 19th position.

Professor Andrew Wathey, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said: “We are delighted to be the North East’s most improved university after climbing six places in this year’s Complete University Guide.

“With six programmes rated as being within the top 10 on offer in the UK, and a further five rated within the top 20, this performance reflects Northumbria’s position as one of the top 10 universities in the UK for the number of graduates entering professional employment, alongside our increasing ability to attract highly qualified students who achieve academic success while they are here.”

The Complete University Guide bases its ratings by measuring official data relating to student satisfaction; entry standards; student: staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; research; good honours degrees achieved; graduate prospects and completion.
