Team Northumbria’s women’s volleyball squad is celebrating a record-breaking season, having won all 47 of its matches and securing five trophies.
Team Northumbria has ended the season with three national and two student titles.
They are Super 8s League and Playoff Champions – this is the highest level of the sport in the country, and winners of the 2013 National Cup.
In addition, the student team is this year's BUCS League and BUCS Student Cups winners.
Colin Stromsoy, Head of Sport at Northumbria, said: “Rarely does a team complete a clean sweep of domestic trophies. It is even rarer to go through an entire season with a 100% winning record.
“That Team Northumbria women’s volleyball team has achieved both is all the more astonishing when you consider that the University has utterly dominated the entire national game with a team made up of student players.
“This year has been an unprecedented success. To win all 47 matches in a season is almost unthinkable. The team and all the associated coaching and support staff are to be warmly congratulated on such a monumental achievement.”
The team is coached by Team GB assistant Dave Goodchild, who said: “The women have raised the bar of volleyball in this country; they’re hands down the best team this country has ever seen and they’ve showed they’re unstoppable.
“They're a pleasure to coach, they listen, they’re a solid unit and they’re so reliable.”
