Northumbria secures top 50 ranking in two national guides

Northumbria University is now ranked in the top 50 of two of the UK’s leading university guides.

After featuring in the top 50 of The Guardian University Guide for the past two years, Northumbria has now climbed an impressive six places to enter the UK top 50 of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk 2020 University League Tables, which are published today (Wednesday 1 May).

The University improved its score in many of the metrics used by TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk to develop its league table, with the most notable increases relating to spend on academic services; the staff-student ratio and graduate prospects.

In addition, TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk has ranked Library and Information Management within the top 10 in the UK. Elsewhere within the table, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Building and Communication and Media Studies all secured places within the top 20.

Northumbria’s rise in the UK league tables also follows significant improvement internationally. In the Times Higher Education’s global rankings last autumn, the University’s strong performance for research citations placed it firmly within the top 25% in the world for this measure.

Professor Andrew Wathey CBE, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Northumbria University, said Northumbria’s position in The Complete University Guide was further confirmation of a successful strategy focused on quality.

“Ours has been a quality-based strategy with the student at its heart and the improvements shown in this year’s table are evidence that this approach is working. Students at Northumbria can be confident that they are learning from world-class researchers in a vibrant academic community.”

Anyone interested in studying at Northumbria or finding out more about its courses should register to attend the University’s forthcoming summer Open Days which will be held on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June. Visit www.northumbria.ac.uk for more information or to book your place.
